Project Managing a Pilot Project to proof of concept the use of an e-solution in delivering material delivery schedules via a market place to some 300 suppliers. This involved the study of Commerce One, Impress and SAP R/3 Discreet Industry Solution Supplier Workplace. The project is temporarily on hold to enable the investigation of GM TradeXchange alliances with SAP R/3. Phase A of the project is the establishment of a business case for implementation. The second phase of the project will be the implementation of a e-solution for the short term with an immediate commissioning of an investigation into an Automotive Industry Solution., involving a joint collaboration between all South African car makers and component manufacturers
Activities carried out involved the following:
- Configuration of SAP R/3 messaging and ALE to enable connectivity.
- Specification and design of customised delivery schedule IDOC.
- Implementation of SAP R/3 Business Connector

· ( Feb 1997 – Jul 1997 ) Successfully completed a detailed Materials Management SAP R/3 “Fit for Purpose” Scoping and planning report. In conjunction with the implementation partners, the main activities were:
i. Definition of a high-level business model to document the scope of the implementation.
ii. Performed SAP R/3 fit gap analysis by mapping the different process to the SAP R/3 business Processes and accessing the suitability or fit for each.
iii. Definition of benefits and cost savings.
iv. Definition of reports forms and interface requirements.
v. Defined implementation strategy.
vi. Defined project plan and costs.
vii. Conduct project team initial training.
viii. Presentation to and approval by full Board of Directors.

· ( March – April ’98 ) Completed the System Design Phase in the project. The two sub phases completed were:
a) Business Blueprint and b) Simulation Phase
I completed the following activities:
i. Development of generic business flows to gain a high-level understanding of the business processes required for configuration requirements.
ii. Completed the framework of the Process Selection Matrix based on the Scenarios and Processes for the MM module according to the SAP R/3 Analyser Process Selection Matrix.
iii. The IMG Configuration Worksheets, which was a download from SAP, was completed while working through SAP Help.
iv. The SAP R/3 Analyser Scenarios was reviewed and any General Motors specific information documented. This included where the General Motors processes were different, any specific requirements and user expectations and any other relevant points that come up during the workshops.
v. The Scenario/Process Worksheet was used as a checklist to ensure that all the information has been gathered. Special attention was given to Data Conversions, Interfaces, Enhancements, Reports and Forms Requirements related to each Scenario.
vi. Developed data conversions rules for vendors, material masters, RFQ’s, purchase requisitions, purchase orders, contracts and schedule agreements from SAP R/2 Release 5.0 F and other legacy systems to SAP R/3 release 3.1H
vii. System configuration for Procurement MM-PUR in SAP R/3 release 3.1H and the upgrade to rel 4.0B in terms of the requirements gathered during the business blueprint phase.
viii. Development of detail business flows in Visio Rel 5.0 to indicate responsibilities and actions with respect to each business process.
ix. Initiated and completed enhancement requests specifications, reports and form requirements
x. Identification of user workflow requirements
xi. Master Data “clean up” activity formulation prior to data take-on.
